Metro Foothills Zone Meeting

On Friday 28 October, the Shed hosted the second Metro Hills Zone meeting for the West Australian Men's Shed Association (WAMSA). Apart from the annual WAMSA conference held in Cannington, the idea of these meeting is for a smaller number of sheds to get together to share information, meet like minded people and support each other in a local area. Seven sheds attended the meeting and from the discussions afterwards, all enjoyed the experience. Our Shed's thanks go the Nissa and Ronnie for organising the morning teas, lunch and afternoon tea, which was well appreciated. The day was followed by our usual end of month, "Sundowner" at which any excess food was duly dispatched! Our guest speaker was our Vice Chairman, Roy, who recounted his recent experiences of surviving a few medical problems one after the other. The message of his talk was to visit your Doctor regularly. A very rewarding day and our thanks to WAMSA for the presentation and their expertise.

Karragullen Expo 2016

Due to the rather inclement weather, no photographs, but a very successful day despite the heavens trying to drown everybody! We sold three BBQs and various other items making the whole evolution very worth while. Thanks to all those who helped at the Expo and in the run up by providing items to sell.

'Downsizing - Staying at Home'

Our speaker this month was Vanessa, who spoke on "Downsizing - staying at home". This covered all sorts of aspects from what sort of household maintenance should be done before you are physically unable, to the various Government bodies who can help once you become less active and capable. She informed us that in countries like Norway and Sweden, some 80% of citizens grow old in their own homes, where in Australia the figure is nearer 20%. Writing as someone who fully intends to stay put for as long as possible, her information was very informative. Thank you Vanessa.
