George gives a talk

Our Treasurer, George, who has been fighting cancer for over three years, gave us all a talk on his strategies for dealing with his illness. His moving and very informative talk brought out some of the more bizarre and unpleasant aspects of his treatment, all of which George has borne with his sense of good humour and attitude of "anything can be overcome". I'm sure all of us listening to him found it a truly inspiring and humbling experience.

I've listed the points that George brought out in his talk, all of which are excellent guides, not only for illness, but for life.

  • There is too much negativity about, try to avoid it as much as possible.
  • Try and keep your mind busy.
  • Keep your sense of humour. Whoever said laughter is the best medicine, was probably right.
  • The desire to prove the doctors wrong, will give you the drive to keep going.
  • Your wife or partners support is a very important part of the journey.
  • Have the attitude of "anything can be overcome".
  • There are always people worse off than you.
  • Don't ever think "it will just go away". If you have concerns, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Training Day

As part of the Shed's group of Induction talks, Neil took 17 members through the dangers of operating some of our more complicated machines. With this complete, most Shed members have now been briefed on the safety measures of all the equipment we presently operate. Those unable to attend will be briefed individually as time permits. Many thanks Neil for a very informative and concise series of talks.
